Apple Sauce and Cinnamon Christmas Ornaments

Making these simple ornaments have become a Christmas tradition for us! This is our 3rd year making them so I am putting together this mini tutorial for you!

WARNING: THESE ARE NOT TO BE CONSUMED! They may smell amazing but do not be tempted!

REQUIRED ITEMS :

  • Apple Sauce
  • Cinnamon
  • rolling pin
  • Straw or something to make a hole
  • ribbon to hang on tree
  • bowl to mix

Optional Items:

  • Cookie cutters in your favorite holiday shapes
  • wax paper
  • glitter glue pens
  • acrylic paints

What you need to do first is mix an entire bottle of cinnamon with some room temperature apple sauce. I have never made actual measurements just add and mix together with your hands until you get a good roll-able ball. I a little on the moist side but not to sticky. ( Seen below…it’s good to have some extra cinnamon on hand in case you add to much apple sauce)  I like to roll out my “dough” on wax paper gives you less of a mess and easy clean up.

Image

At this point if you have cookie cutters, cut out your shapes to what ever thickness you like. Remember this thick the shape the heavier they will be and longer they will take to dry. If you plan to hang them on the tree this is when you need to use a straw to make a hole threw the ornaments. (Once all your shapes are cut put them all on a cookie sheet. You can let them air dry over night if you prefer but I like to put them in an oven on the lowest temperature for about an hour. ( this makes the house smell amazing)  Keep an eye on them in the oven about 30 minutes make sure to carefully flip them over.

ImageAfter the hour they are still a little moist but only a very very little bit. That’s ok.

Image

This is where I let me daughters go to town decorating them. We used glitter glue pens this year.

ImageImageImageImage

ImageImage

This was our results! I was able to paint 2 of them!

Image

The following pictures are from previous years. These are the ones that have survived the years! Still have a slight scent! The first two were decorated with glitter glue pens and the last 2 were colored with acylic paints.

As always thanks for reading! If you have any questions feel free to ask, I will do my best to answer them asap!

Hello Kitty Birthday

Today is my oldest daughters birthday! She just turned four! We had her birthday party a couple weeks ago. I wanted to hold off for this blog until her actual birthday. We threw her a Hello Kitty themed party.

For this party blog, I am just going to share pictures for others to get ideas. The following pictures are from her party. If you have specific Questions feel free to ask them, I will respond pretty fast.
I used this link for the free printable banner

The happy birthday banner I used my silhouette cameo.

Starting to look like Christmas!

We finally have the tree all set up and I was looking foward to taking some fun pictures! I plan was to get some bokeh effect pictures… only to find out that I need a lens with an aperture of F1.8…Also before this night I had no idea how to change my aperture let alone where to look for what aperture range was offered. Once I found out I felt a little stupid! I have a Nikon D90… and did not know that while on the INFO menu all I had to do was adjust the little dial on the front of the camera..–Embarrassing– and plus double embarrassing I had no idea that I would not beable to get the F1.8 aperture with my lens… or any of the lens I own. The closest I can it a F4.5 which gave me a little bit of the bokeh effect I was looking for but no wheres nearly as intense as I wanted.

These first 3 pictures were taken with my holga pinhole lens ($15 on Ebay) I bought it over a year ago and could not get it to work. But now that I have a better understanding of manual mode, I know that I needed to have an extended shutter speed so enough light comes into the picture. The following 3 pictures are from my minor experiment with this lens.

Image In this picture I decided to stand next to the tree and it gave me a light shadow on the left.

ImageImage

This next picture is the closest I could get to the bokeh effect I was looking for. I was apple to get a F4.5 but my lens do not offer what I wanted. Maybe next year I will have a new lens and be able to try again.

Image

I have finally made it out of my first horrible trimester, so I wanted to show my fatty belly… lol Yes most is still belly flab but the baby is there. 🙂 By Christmas we should know the gender!

This last picture as just for fun! Looks like a firework Christmas Tree… Or light Explosion! I like it! With the camera on the tripod and long shutter speed I snapped the picture and a couple seconds into the picture I zoomed out.

Everything with photography is a learning experience for me. I learn more and more every time I pick up my camera! Thanks for reading and letting me share my experiences with you!

Spiderman Party

Things I will talk about in this post:

  1. Link-O-Loons
  2. Spider Banner
  3. City Skyline
  4. Drink Labels
  5. Spidey Games
  6. Photo Booth/Props
  7. Party Favors
  • Image

My daughter turned three in October, she LOVES Spiderman, so we gave her a Spiderman party!

1. The balloon “arch” over the table was made with Link-O-Loons, if you haven’t worked with these before look them up! They are pretty awesome. Below is a picture of a link-o-loon. They have a little tail on the top. This makes it much easier to make arches, helium or not. For this party we did not use helium, we just strung the arch up. For my daughter’s first birthday we used these balloons with helium…shown here :  and

I think they look amazing with helium. Their are so many more options to do with them than just doing arches. Next year when we are back in the states we will use helium in them again! Buying helium here in Italy is way to expensive!

Image

2. Spider Banner. I made this with my Silhouette Cameo! I wish I got a closer photo, but the circles are actually scalloped edged, then I mod podged black spider web and the letters to my daughters name. I just strung it all together with some black yarn.

3. City Skyline. I bought some black foam board and just used an exacto blade to cut the city. The foam board actually has a grid on one side so it made it easy to cut straight. Then there’s really no exactness to how the city should look, make some tall buildings, short ones pointed tops, flats tops. Just have fun with it. The edges will look a little scraggly but that’s OK, when your done just run your finger across the edges.

Image

4. Drink labels. I cannot take credit for these. I found the free printable at this blog. Poppy Seed Projects. Once printed just cut and wrap around bottles and tape together. These were a big hit everyone loved the labels!

Image

5. Spidey Games. First we have the pinata. The picture above is of the birthday girl in her birthday TuTu dress, That I made forher!

Image

The next spidey game was this tiny velcro ball game. I bought this and was expecting a much bigger version…None the less the kiddos still had fun.

Image

The last Spidey Game was this Pin the Spider on the web. I just bought a poster board, drew a spider web. The using my silhouette cameo I cut out enough spiders for all the kiddos and wrote their names on them. You could play for who gets the closest to the center or just everyone wins when their spider makes it to the web.

6. PhotoBooth/Props.

Image

The banner I attached to the backdrop I made…NO SEW! I’ve had my sewing machine packed up and really didn’t want to unpack it, so I figured I would try the iron on binding. I understand that the iron on wont last as long as sewing but it worked perfect for the party. Choose a fabric and search for iron on binding…SLOWLY Iron-on the binding around each pendant. I then used my Silhouette Cameo to cut out my daughters name on iron on vinyl.

Image

All of the following paper props you will see I made with my silhouette cameo. I cut them all out and hot glued them to dowels. I only wish I was able to get more people to participate in my lil photo booth! The kids were to hyper and the adults didn’t care for it! 🙂

ImageImageImageImage

The backdrop turned into a great background while the birthday girl opened her gifts.

Image

7. Instead of just giving out goody bags. I decided to make spiderman t-shirts for all the boys and spiderman tutu’s for all the girls. I made lables with their name on word. (I wish I saved the file to share but I forgot to) It is very easy to make. I just found the shape i wanted then on word choice to make a thick black box around the shape. Printed on Red cardstock, cut them out, punched holes and tied to each “goody” using twine.

ImageImage

Here is the Birthday girls big sister modeling her tutu.

ImageImage

All girls put their tutu’s on for the party!

Image

I also printed labels for everything. Using Freeprintables. (Hero Pizza, Spidey Cake, Picture Time etc…)

Thanks for checking out our party! I hope we have inspired you to create you own spidey party. If you have any questions at all don’t hesitate to ask!

Pregnancy Announcement

I know I have not posted anything for a few months, but I will hopefully be catching up soon! Two of my class will be ending this week and I should have some more free time.
Last month we found out we are expecting baby number 3! I of course had to take pictures! I used a tripod and lets just say my wireless remote wasn’t working 100% for me! My hubby and kiddos weren’t to thrilled for pictures but we were able to get one anyways! We are hoping for a boy, and should find out right before Christmas! So be on the look out for gender reveal pictures then!

Telescopically!

First off let me, let you know, that I do have several post that I plan to share to catch up but I am a little behind. I Just could not wait to share this post about my telescopic lens! So as you have assumes my telescopic lens has arrived! THe first two nights it was a cloudy mess with no moon in sight! Last night I was finally able to play with my telescope! The pictures I got aren’t as crisp and detailed as I would like however that’s no the telescopes fault it’s my tripods fault!! 🙂 I did not think having a cheap tripod would matter but of course it does because the lens attaches to the tripod while camera mounts to the lens. I suppose if I was using a smaller point and shoot camera it wouldn’t move as much. Anyways! Lets get to the photos!

After very minor editing this is my end photo!!  This photo was shot this 50X magnification.

Image

This is before my minor edited! As you can see it’s pretty detailed if only I could get my camera and lens 100% stable!

Image

And Just as a reminder this is what the moon looks like shooting through my 200 mm camera lens.

Image

For those interested this is the telescope lens I bought! The cool thing about this telescope lens is that you can mount any camera to it! When you order it specify what camera you have to the seller and they will send the corresponding adapter!

As usual thanks for reading! I plan to have much more pictures of the moon to share in the future! I hope they only get better,

Jesolo Air Show

This past weekend we went to Lido di Jesolo and watched an air show on the beach. I am so disappointed that I forgot to bring my 200 mm lens. However I did manage to get a few good shots with my 80 mm posted below.
